The earliest period of Lake Worth history does not even bear the name Lake Worth. It was a small community of early pioneers who obtained land through the Homestead Act and created the community of JEWELL. From the humble collection of families came the genesis of Lake Worth.
The second time period of Lake Worth history is the years 1914-1939. As people came to Florida to establish farms and build lives, they bought land west of the current city. As an inducement to purchase farm land the developers gave away a free 25 foot lot near the water.
The years of 1940-1945, of course, cover the years of World War II. Palm Beach County was important to the war effort because of its strategic location on the Atlantic Ocean. Many men from Lake Worth served in the armed forces; civilians watched the skies for planes; training took place at airfields; and hospitals were set up in hotels.
The final time period is 1946-2020. This period saw a time of explosive growth, economic difficulties, new immigrant populations, and a renewed concern for historic preservation.
