Join the Historical Society as we welcome Eliot Kleinberg to our second program of the season. World War II brought many changes to the state of Florida. Suddenly it went from a quiet country atmosphere to a hectic place crowded with people. But few of the people in Florida today know anything about those days. Join us to hear some of the stories of World War II in Florida and helps us understand how life changed for average citizens and for businesses. EVERYONE IS WELCOME AT THIS FREE PROGRAM in the Gallery Room of the Lake Worth Beach City Library at 15 No. M Street at 6:30 on October 17. Please use the main entrance on M Street to enter the Library.Guests are invited to arrive at 6:00 for lite bites and drinks before the program.

October 17, 2024 – “A Tropical Paradise, A Cold Murder”. Ginger Pedersen will relate the tale of the 1902 murder of Richard Hone near the Lake Worth city limits. She reveals much of the misinformation that has persisted over the years.

November 21, 2024 –  Florida Talks: War in Paradise: Stories of World War II in Florida. Noted local journalist Eliot Kleinberg, a lecturer from the Florida Humanities Council, will present a program sharing how Florida and her people helped win the war.

December 12, 2024 – College Park:the Greynolds and Monroe Legacy. Local historian Janet Naughton tells the story of the men responsible for an important part of Lake Worth history.

January 16, 2025 – Artists of the Lake Worth Beach City Library. Cindy Ansell and Steve Lockwood will lead a tour of the art collection highlighting the works of Sherman Winton and Samuel Schlappich.

February 20, 2025 – Winners from Lake Worth Community Middle School Black history contests will be presented. Steve Lockwood will also present a program on Robert Mitchell, local activist.

March 20, 2025 – Mermaid Tales from the Pool (Sally Welsh tells stories only an insider knows) and Steve Lockwood presents the history of the Casino and Pool.
